True Blue was Madonna's third studio album and was released on June 30th 1986 by Sire Records. It reached a record breaking number one in 28 countries around the world and lingered for 34 weeks at the top of the European Top 100 Albums chart, the longest of any other album ever. It was the biggest selling album of the 1980s by a female artist and is still one of the best-selling albums of all time with more than 25 million copies sold.
All in all a great success!
The front cover was taken by photographer Herb Ritts and is arguably one of Madonna's most famous pictures.
The predominately blue cover aptly reflects the title of the album.
Madonna was involved in just about every step in the creation of True Blue, co-writing and co-producing all the songs and having a large influence on the cover artwork as well.
The inner protective sleeve is more muted but continues with the theme from the cover.
